Lots of talk about bills on 2nd Amendment Rights of carry rights being proposed in the US Congress but at this time do not know of any that have any interest or of progress being made because of lack of backing on both sides of the isle. Lots of people are up for elections this fall so keep on top of information so you can chose the best candidate.

Guess the new rush of information and new legislation is starting. So will preview some of the things coming up. At the end of this newsletter, I have set out the new processes for applying.

Went to hear Alice Tripp speak and they are hoping that the new legislators will again be open to improving the concealed handgun laws even further. Keep in touch
with them, or get on our e-mail or whatever you need to be sure you are alerted if they need people to contact legislators on specific legislation and what the outcome is.

NEW PROCESSES FOR APPLYING

FOR A NEW LICENSE

You can start your application for a concealed handgun license in two different ways.

  1. GO ONLINE

(http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_recor ds/chl/chlsindex.htm ),

- Complete the online application

- Complete your affidavits online

When you complete payment, it will give you a receipt. You must print out the receipt/notice/checklist that appears telling you any additional paperwork needed. It will have a barcode and must be included with the additional items.

Be sure you understand what you are swearing to when you complete the process. You will not receive an application packet in the mail.

Set up a class date and come to class with your printed out checklist and identification. We will complete your photographs and fingerprints in class. You will be issued a CHL 100 showing that you have passed.

Mail the required documentation to DPS for them to process the background checks and issue your license.

OR YOU CAN JUST COME TO CLASS

  1. We will have application packets and go over the eligibility requirements and documents. We can notarize your affidavits, do your photographs, fingerprints, do the range qualification and the 10 hours of training. .

You will be issued a CHL 100 showing that you have passed. This must also be included in the documentation.

Mail the application packet to DPS to process the background checks and issue your license.

If you make arrangements to have your fingerprints done by the DPS Crime Records (Fast Data) people, remember you must still send in two passport photos.

RENEWAL APPLICATIONS - You can begin the process 6 months prior to your license expiration date. If you have taken the class, gotten your license and renewed one time, a second time and this is your third time to renew, call DPS as you may not have to take the class and range qualification but every 10 years.

RENEWAL APPLICATIONS NO LONGER REQUIRE THE FINGERPRINTS AND PHOTOGRAPHS. If license is already expired, you must renew before your next birth date or you will have to start over. The renewal process can be completed by

- Complete the online renewal application

- Complete your affidavits online

You will be issued a CHL 100. Mail the renewal application with payment attached, affidavits and any other required documentation to the DPS to process and issue your renewal license.
